Take the Space, present;
by Siobhan Nicholas
Christopher Wren loved him!...
...Isaac
Newton loathed him!!
This genius of the 17th century provoked
intense loyalty, controversy, jealousy and hatred. Was “England’s
Leonardo” buried by another Da Vinci plot?
In hot-blooded times, passions explode. History
is on trial and Robert Hooke - your time has come.
Robert Hooke
was one of the fathers of modern science and perhaps
the greatest Natural Philosopher of the C17th.
He is now thought by many to be our English
Leonardo. Like Da Vinci he was a fine artist,
an accomplished architect and engineer. Moreover
as Curator of Experiments for the Royal Society,
he poured out a stream of brilliant concepts on
[amongst others] universal gravity, evolution of
the species and atomic theory - even anticipating
the modern wave theory. Yet after his death, Hooke
was written out of History. But in 2006 – a
three hundred year old manuscript was accidentally
found in a cupboard in a country house in Hampshire
in England. ….. it was the lost Folio of
Robert Hooke!!
Hanging Hooke is a tale of intrigue
and betrayal.
