Curated by Fiona Mulholland
‘THE SPACE IN BETWEEN’ brings together a group of leading
artists working in the field of sculpture who engage with traditional
sculptural processes in a non-traditional manner. The show presents
a number of artists whose work, while diverse in form and sensibility
is consistent in that they each set precedents in terms of levels of
engagement with materials and processes. A common thread in the exhibition
is the interesting variety of witty responses, the innovative use of
traditional materials such as wax, wood, stone and paper and the craftsmanship
inherent in the objects. While investigating different themes, what
is evident in the work presented is the artists’ transformative
eye and translation of the everyday into the extraordinary through
sculptural form and practice.
The exhibition includes work by Noel Brennan, Brendan Jamison, Maggie
Madden, Chris Neumann, Alan Phelan and Martha Quinn.
